My favorite song of all ages is titled “Today”. It mirrors my philosophy of life almost perfectly. I discovered that the words and music were written by Randy Sparks around 1960.
My Band, Maiden Heaven, never recorded or performed the song, but in 1999 when my youngest son passed away at an early age from a heart attack we did it for his funeral and this is a cassette recording from that sad day. I, Carol Stober played guitar and sang with Vicky Stober Beall, Jackie Stober Garner and Rebekah Stober.
We played the tape at my husband’s funeral as a celebration of life for him in October 2009.
I want to share this performance with you on the Internet because the lyrics are the message and our family harmony is a beautiful reminder of the unconditional love and affection that we (3 generations of girls) share with each other in life.
Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine,
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine.
A million tomorrows shall all pass away,
Ere’ I forget all the joy that is mine, Today.
I’ll be a dandy and I’ll be a rover,
You’ll know who I am by the song that I sing,
I’ll feast at your table, I’ll sleep in your clover,
Who cares what the morrow shall bring.
I can’t be contented with yesterday’s glory,
I can’t live on promises winter to spring.
Today is my moment and now is my story,
I’ll laugh and I’ll cry and I’ll sing.
